Lori Kadison doesn't like to be seen. You hear those words and yout think "She's shy. Not confident." Well, that's not the case. Lori is and eighteen years old, and goes litteraly unseen. She lives in no permanet home. During the days she'll wonder the streets, at night, she goes where ever she can. Old abandoned apartments or just a street alley. She doesn't now who her parents are, if she has any sisters or brothers, or even if she has any family. She is on her own. But that all changed the day she met Stella.
It was a normal day. Well, as normal as a day can get for Lori. She was wondering in the shadows, watching the people of New York rushing off to places they had to be and buying another cup of coffee. She saw a man trying to get a woman to sell him an old antique car for half price. On the other side of the street there were all kinds of people. Different shapes and sizes. All to busy to notice her, except a girl.
She had red hair pulled back into a tight pony tail. Lori's hair was brown and snarly. She wore a knee length skirt and a lacey top. Lori had ripped jeans and a T-shirt. Her shoes looked like they were ment for a model. Lori's were an old pair of tennis shoes. She looked like she Lori's my age, eighteen. Maybe a bit older. She started walking toward her. She didn't like that.
Lori slipped back into the shadows. "Hello?" She heard the girl. She was following her. "Hello." She said again. "Come back, I don't bite," She said with a giggle. Lori stopped and turned around.
"What do you want," Lori asked, "Don't like me wondering on your streets?" Lori said.
"Wonder all you want, I don't really care. I'm just wondering why you wonder the streets," She said.
"Is that any of your busness?" Lori asked, then she started walking again.
"I've seen you on the streets every day." This shocked Lori I had never seen her before, and yet she'd seen her every day? "Don't you have a family?"
Lori stopped short. She closed her eyes and then turned around, opened them and said "Look, I am just fine by myself. I don't need you to be getting into my busness. It's my life and I'm fine with it" She snapped the words at her. But she, obviously, was stuborn.
"What's your name?" she asked. Lori glared at her.
"Lori," She said, "Why do you care?"
"How old are you?" She asked, Ignoring Lori's question
"Eighteen," She told her.
"Nice to meet you," She said, holding her hand out. Lori looked at her hand, then back up at her. She just tilted her head toward Lor's hand as if to say I'm not leaving tell you shake it. So she shook it. "I'm Stella Sander. I'm also eighteen. Want to go get a cup of coffee?" She asked
Lori looked at her. She had asked me if I wanted to have a cup of coffee with her. She was shocked. She looked rich. And she was asking someone like Lori to have a cup of coffee. Lori just smiled and said, "I don't drink coffee" Lori told her.
"Great!" She sounded like she was going to have tea with the queen of England or something. "Come on."
"Wait, I just said . . ." But she just dragged me down a street.
They walked up to some sort of fancy coffee shop. "Wait," Stella said.
"What?" Lori asked.
"Here, I always keep an extra oufit in my tote bag. You can have it. I don't really need it." She said, handing Lori the clothes.
"Is there something wrong with my clothes" Lori asked.
She giggled, "Your just to funny, come on" She led Lori into the coffee shop and said to go in the bathroom and change. She did. I came out and her face lit up. "You look wonderful!" She chimed.
"Um, right," Lori said, unsure about her . . . in a skirt and top . . . with pumps she could barely walk in.
"What do you want?" Stella asked her.
"Um . . . what do they have?" Lori asked
"Well, you can have a doughnut and a cup of coffee." She said
"Um, sure," Lori said. She had never had a cup of coffee or a doughnut.
Stella odered the food and we took a seat. "So?" She asked as Lori took a bite of the doughnut.
"Wow, that's good." Lori said, then took another bite of the doughnut. Stella smiled a smile of satisfaction.
"Next, I was think we should go shopping. We can get you som fabulous clothes and . . . " Lori cut Stella off.
"No, that's fine, I'm good with my clothes. It's bad enought that You've already gotten me into this." Lori said, gesturing to the skirt and top she was wearing. Stella giggled.
" Alright then, we'll go see a movie." She said, then nodded her head, once again satisfied.
"A movie?" Lori asked.
"Oh my gosh, don't tell me you've never seen a movie before," Stella said.
"Well," Lori started.
"Come one," Stella grabbed Lori's hand before she could finish her sentence, "I'll show you."
they started walking down the street. Lori had changed out of Stella's clothes because they were starting to bother her. She didn't like that, but I insisted.
"It's not that long of a walk to the movie theater. Just a couple blocks," stella told Lori.
they walked another block then heard the shouts of the police, "Stop her!" They came running down the street . . . towards Lori. The seized her.
"Excuse me, what do you think your doing?" Stella shouted at the police officer.
"This girl is under arrest," The police officer answered.
"For what reasons?" Stella said.
"She stole money out of the cash register in the market," The police officer said.
"That can't be true, get your hands off of her!" Stella shouted.
"Yeah, buzz off!" Lori shouted in his face.
"Alright, come on," The police officer said.
"I didn't do it, Stella!" Lori shouted as the officer dragged her away.
"I know! I belive you!" She shouted back. "I'll prove your innocent!"

The Phone Call, The Text, and The Rubies
Ring, ring, ring. I picked up my cell and looked at the caller ID
PRIVATE CALLER
Hmm, wonder who this is, I thought as I picked it up and answered.
"Hello?" I said
"Hello, is this kim koral?" A deep voice asked.
"Yes" I answered.
"You have a job" The deep voice said.
"Can I aske who's this is," I said, not wanting to give information away to a complete stranger.
"This is Isaac Ireen, CIA. ID number 1406." He said.
"Alright, what is it?" I asked.
"You have heard of Isabel Ashton," He said
"Yes, she has the most prised collection of jewels," I answered. I sat down on the sofa.
"She is missing her collection of red rubies. You need to find them, and quick. She wants them back. As you know, she is a big part of the CIA and threatens to press charges if we don't find the rubies fast." He said, and waited for an answere.
I was shocked. I hadn't had a job for nearly four years. I was 17 when I had saved the president from a bomb. That was the last mission I did before I settled down in my own apartment. Now being twenty-one, I still practiced my marchal arts and all that kind of stuff, but I thought my spying years were over.
"I'll take it," I said.
"A helicopter will be waiting for you on the top of your apartment building in thirty minutes," He said, then hung up the phone.
My first thought was I only have thirty minutes to pack my bags and get on the buildings roof. My second thought was How did the CIA know were I live? That thought troubled me while I packe my bag of close, and then packed my bag of gear. Then I went out and waited on the roof for the chopper to appear.
"Were are we going?" I yelled over the sound of the whirling blades on the chopper.
"To pay a visit to Ms. Ashton," A man in a black suit said.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Isaac Ireen," He answered.
"Oh, so your the man who I talked to on the phone," I said.
"Yes," he said, "I am."
The helicopter ride was only about twenty-five minutes. After we landed, I stepped out of the chopper. Right in front of me was a giant manchon. It was five stories high and made of stone. It was, in one word, beautiful.
We walked up to the front door and rang the door bell. The door opened. A middle aged woman stood before us. She wore a sleek, blue dress and a scarf. Her hat matched her dress and had a feather sticking out of it. I could tell that this was going to be very interesting.
"Oh, it's sooo good to see you, Isaac." She said. Then she looked straight at me, looked me up and down. "This is the person you hired to find my precious rubies?" She looked at Isaac.
"She is very good, Madam. She could find these rubies as fast as what ever person you were hoping to have." Isaac reasured her.
"Alright then, come, come. she said, waving us inside the enormous manchion. It was big inside. The ceiling was at least two stories high, and at the top hung a large golden chandelier. There was a large Grand Staircase. It was, like the outside, in a word, beautiful.
"Those rubies are one of my most prised possesions, Ms. Koral. I hope you will be able to find them." She said. I don't think she was that confident that I would find them.
"I will do my best, Ms. Ashton. And please, call me Kim," I told her.
"Alright then, Kim, I went to go lock up the room that I keep my rubies in and they were all fine. I went to sleep, then, when I woke up the next morning, poof, there gone." she through her hands up in the air, "I just don't understand it," said, then she took a sip of her tea. "Oh, where are my manners, Tea?" She asked
"Oh, no thank you," I said politely.
"If I were you, I would start looking for the rubies in Rome," She said.
"Why Rome?" I asked.
"Well, I think that would be a good start being that there was a letter that the theif dropped and It was adressed to him, and it said he lived in rome," She said as if it was the most obvious thing there could be on earth.
"Wait, there was a, um, a letter?" Isaac asked and started shifting in his seat. It was odd, but I had more important things to worry about.
"Alright then, lets go to Rome," I said, then started to stand.
"Ok, I guess that would be a good place to start," Isaac said, and started to stand up.
"No, your staying here, I work alone," I slipped my sunglasses on, thanked Ms. Ashton, and headed out the door to the helicopter.
"Take me to Rome," I told the pilate, then took my seat, and made a plan.
The streets of Rome were busy. There were people every where, but I still kept my eyes open and alert. A woman was trying to get a lady to buy one of the silk scarves lying on a table. A man was hollaring out to people about how good the veggitables he was selling were. But then I saw a man lurking in the shadows. It looked suspicious. But what I noticed was that he was looking at me. I casually kep walking, but in his direction. He started walking, too. I couldn't make out his features, his face was covered by a cloak of some sort. I just kept following him. He turned into a dark ally and then disappeared.
I heard my phone buzz. I took it out of my pocket. It was a text. It said:
As long as your looking for the rubies, your life is at stake.
That's odd I thought. Then I found myselft trip and braced myselft to fall into the brick wall but when I hit it, it . . . opened. I was inside of the building now. It was a secret door. I couldn't see so I reached into my gear bag for a flash light. I turned it on and saw . . . The rubies! I looked around to make sure no one was there. No one was, I laughed at the text I had gotten. Then I took my empty bag and put the rubies in it.
"Find what you are looking for?" A deep and familiar voice said.
I looked around but couldn't see any one. Then I felt something over my face. I tried to move it but then I started to feel dissy. Then everything went black.
I woke up. My head hurt. I looked around and saw that I was in some sort of storage room. I tried to open the door. Locked. I kind of expected that.
"Alright, we got the rubies. Now the CIA will be done for because Ms. Ashton will shut it down." I heard the same, familiar voice and some laughing.
Who is that? I asked myself. Isaac, of course. But why? That didn't matter right now. what mattered is that I needed to get out of that storage closet and get Isaac. I grabbed a bobby pin from my hair and started to pick at the lock. I heard a click and I twisted the door knob, It opened.
"I knew you would come in handy" I said, putting the bobby pin back in my hair. I followed the sound of the voices.
"We'll be eatin' good tonight, boys" I heard Isaac say. It was a whole new isaac, though. The Isaac I new was polite and nice and well, not the knew Isaac.
I peeked around a corner and saw Isaac and two other guys. I can take them I thought. "I can take them," I whispered to myself, because it sounded more assuring than it did in my mind. I started forward. But then a hand grabbed my arm and another hand covered my mouth.
"Oh no you don't, well, at least not without some help you don't" the big arms released me and I turned around and saw Eddie. Eddie was also part of the CIA. I nodded and smiled and we both ran out.
I went for the bag of rubies around Isaac's shoulder and Eddie took care of the other two guy's. I grabbed the bag.
"Oh, look who it is," He turned around to face the other guys, but was surprised to find them fighting another guy.
I grabbed his arm and flipped him onto the ground. But he got back up and gave a kick, I ducked out of the way.
"So, you think your good now do ya" He said with a laugh.
"Yeah, actually I do" I landed a blow to the side of his head. He stumbled back a little.
"Is that all you got?" He said, stepping back a little.
"No," I said and landed a kick to his stomach. He fell to the ground. I got a rope and bound his hands and ankles. I looked over and saw that the same was done to the other guys, too. I called the police. when they arrived, they took Isaac and the other two guys away. Eddie cam out of the shadows, I thanked him and he walked away. He was only sixteen and I had done some training with him. I taught him well.
Every now and then, I think of why Isaac Ireen wanted to shut down the CIA. He probably just was one of those moody people and woke up one day and though hey, I'm feeling mad today so I'm going to shut down the CIA. I usually laught at that thought. But seriously, who would try to shut donw one of the biggest facilities in the world? I guess there are some mysteries in this world that you just can't solve.
